Boredom Tolerance Is a Superpower🦸♀️
Tonight I wanted a quick dopamine hit.
Not because I was stressed.
Not because I was heartbroken.
But because I was bored.
And boredom is uncomfortable.
We don’t talk about it enough — how silence can feel louder than chaos, and sometimes more overwhelming than noise.
The Truth About Boredom
Boredom is not loneliness.
It is the absence of stimulation, something we have become deeply unaccustomed to.
Most of us are addicted to stimulation in one form or another:
- Phones
- People
- Noise
- Nicotine
- Plans
When those disappear, we assume something is wrong. But nothing is wrong. We are simply not used to stillness.
Cigarettes are not just about nicotine.
Wine is not just about taste.
Food is not always about hunger.
They are shortcuts to:
- Dopamine
- Escape
When we cannot sit with boredom, we reach for almost anything to avoid the quiet mind. But what if boredom is not a problem…
What if it is a doorway?
A doorway to self-control.
To clarity.
To intentional living.
When you don’t numb boredom, you:
- Create
- Build
- Reflect
- Design your life.
“Every new habit is born in a moment when you choose not to escape.”
Lessons From My Experiment
So tonight, instead of chasing a quick dopamine hit, I am choosing to sit in the quiet of my new house.
No chaos.
No urgency.
No distraction.
Just me with my many thoughts trying hard for my attention.
And maybe that is the real power -being okay without constant stimulation.
Because the woman I am growing into
is learning to love her silence. 🌸
