Hemalkasa: In the Heart of the Forest 🌿
The road to Hemalkasa is not an easy one. Narrow dusty paths wind through the dense forests of Bhamragad in Gadchiroli, a region once known more for its Naxal unrest than for hope. The silence of the jungle is broken only by the sounds of birds and rustling leaves. Traveling deeper into this wilderness, I wasn’t sure what to expect.
And then, in the middle of this remote forest, I arrived at a place that felt like another world altogether — the Lok Biradari Prakalp, founded in 1973 by Dr. Prakash Amte and Dr. Mandakini Amte, with the blessings of the legendary Baba Amte.
Here, in the most unlikely of places, a quiet revolution of compassion has been unfolding for decades.
Walking into the hospital, I saw families who had walked for hours — sometimes even days — to reach here. The wards were simple, but the care was extraordinary. People were treated not just as patients, but as human beings deserving dignity.
In the school, children from the Madia Gond tribe laughed and learned, their eyes full of curiosity. Many were the first in their families to hold a book or write their names — a powerful step toward a future their parents could never have imagined.
The animal rescue centre was unlike anything I had seen before. Leopards, bears, birds, and even monkeys — all living together in harmony, cared for with deep love. It was not just about conservation; it was about compassion.
What struck me most was how seamlessly everything blended together. Healthcare, education, and animal welfare were not treated as separate causes here. Instead, they flowed into one another, united by the same spirit of selfless service.
As I walked through Hemalkasa, I couldn’t help but feel humbled. In a world often driven by material gain, here were two doctors who had dedicated their lives to serving those who had nothing. Their humility, warmth, and quiet strength spoke louder than any award or recognition ever could.
When I left, the forest felt different. It was no longer just trees and silence — it carried the echo of resilience, compassion, and hope.
Hemalkasa reminded me that even in the most remote corners, humanity can shine its brightest. 🌍❤️
